Although kids love it, the true appeal is to adults who don’t have endless hours to invest in a typical video game. I’ve had every Nintendo gaming console, but I didn’t have the renewed interest until the Wii was released, and I know several other people have felt the same way. Even nursing homes are using the Nintendo Wii for entertainment!

If you are looking for some proof that the Nintendo Wii’s primary appeal is to adults, PC World has done a study that shows the average Nintendo Wii player is 29 years old.

In a group conference call on Friday, the boss man said that Wii attach rates are actually higher than the PS2 attach rate for the same period, suggesting that a healthy number of games are being sold.

When asked if Nintendo was happy with the current quality of third-party games, Fils-Aime said, “Any system will have a range of quality.” He went on to say that developers are “working hard” to push the limits of Wii hardware.

On the subject of online functionality, Reggie dished both good and bad. “We do not anticipate making online playable VC games,” he said before speaking on the future possibility of voice communication for Wii.

How is a shortage benefiting Nintendo?

People who want a Nintendo Wii can’t find one. Some get really mad at Nintendo, while others may just buy another unit such as an XBox 360 or a Playstation 3. At the same time, 3rd party video game publishers don’t want to make their games for the Wii because to many potential buyers don’t have a unit to play it on.

Today I ran across a post over at the New York Times that backs up my thought process a little bit. Here is part of that article:

“It’s pretty amazing,” Jim Silver, editor in chief of Toy Wishes magazine and industry analyst for 24 years, said. “By a year later with hot items, inventory usually catches up.”

“It’s staggering,” said James Lin, MDB Capital Group senior analyst. He estimates that Nintendo are losing $1.3 billion in unmade sales. “They could easily sell double what they’re selling.”

Is it worth $1.3 billion dollars to keep the demand that high?

I remember last year wondering why I saw so many Wii ads when no one could find a Wii to purchase. At the time, I kind of shrugged it off because I figured they were just trying to generate buzz and demand for their gaming console. People are less likely to buy a competitors console if they know what the Wii can do. I think this year is a little different because people are getting really frustrated trying to locate the Wii in stores, and the advertising is only reminding people that they can’t find one.

The problem with this?  It still doesn’t help you find a Nintendo Wii.   And if you do actually stumble across one anywhere but Wal-Mart, you can’t actually buy it because you already paid Wal-Mart for it!    Is anyone buying these?

You may have to pay extra, but there is a good chance you will go without again this holiday season unless you use one of these suggestions.

It is truly amazing that last years rare gift is going to again be this years rare gift.   At this rate, the next Nintendo game console will be out before stores have Nintendo Wii’s in stock.

Each holiday season, a couple hard-to-find toys send parents hunting from store to store. And, each season, they’re soon forgotten: Has your Elmo gotten any tickles lately?

But this year, it looks like the gift everybody is looking for is the same as last year: the Nintendo Wii.

A year after its launch, the small video game console sells out almost immediately when it reaches stores, even after Nintendo Co. has ramped up production several times.

In other words, if you are still looking, try a litter harder over the coming weeks.

I still remember back when the Nintendo Wii was released and we were told about Super Mario Galaxy. It looks like Nintendo was smart to take their time with this title, and all their hard work has paid off. I doubt it will top Super Mario Galaxy, but I would expect Super Smash Brothers Brawl to get extremely high ratings as well.

According to Gizmodo, it looks like Nintendo is actually only producing 1.8 million Nintendo Wii’s a month, which means the shortages that have been around for over a year now will continue through the holiday season.   Video gaming companies have already been complaining that many gamers aren’t able to buy their games because they still can’t find a Nintendo Wii, so this could be a long holiday season for Nintendo.
