When you sit back and think about it, 1.8 million is actually a pretty big number. When you are thinking about it in the context of supplying the world with Nintendo Wii’s, however, it is a completely different story.
According to Gizmodo, it looks like Nintendo is actually only producing 1.8 million Nintendo Wii’s a month, which means the shortages that have been around for over a year now will continue through the holiday season. Video gaming companies have already been complaining that many gamers aren’t able to buy their games because they still can’t find a Nintendo Wii, so this could be a long holiday season for Nintendo.
What troubles me is why is Nintendo intentionally bringing on this shortage? They could make so much more if they just ramp up production. Instead, it feels like they’re just playing with us.
Hi Mark!
A lot of companies aren’t releasing “Wii versions” of their games yet due to the shortages, so I really don’t think Nintendo has anything to gain with the shortage. Its also bad publicity.
Nintendo also makes a lot of their own games and have been releasing some of their top titles, or will be, over the coming months. (Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, etc.) This will hurt their gaming vision as well.
