Pretty much since the launch of the Nintendo Wii a year ago, there have been rumors swirling that Nintendo had a hard drive was in the works. It makes sense with the number of virtual console games that are now available via the online store.
Unfortunately, according to Nintendic, it looks like Nintendo has officially squashed the rumor that a hard drive is in the works. Their primary reasoning is due to the ability to re-download games once purchased.
“The way that we look at it is, we really don’t want people storing every single game they buy on their drive,” said NOA PR manager, Eric Walter, reports CVG.
“When you buy a game, it’s yours forever, so you can delete it, and go back and get it at any time you want. In a way, we liken it to putting music on your iPod; you listen to it for a while, and then you get tired of it, and you pull it off, and you put some new stuff on.”
When you factor in the upcoming WiiWare release, personal pictures and virtual console games, it is easy to fill up. I think that eventually a hard drive will be needed, but for now it looks like we will have to wait. How full is your Wii hard drive? Would you consider purchasing an additional hard drive to store all your stuff?
